mnmdmdmn vs. mnmdmdmn

  QUESTIONS: ANSWERS:
Where are you from? The United States of America. Where are you from?
This is not your interview, its mine.... Ok. So what is this? An Idea which begat a website which begat a music project which begat a destination.
Are you really selling these songs for the listed prices? Yes absolutely. Anyone who discovers this and likes a particular song may bid on it and buy it if they want. For example, if Lady Gaga or Katy Perry or Kanye wants to buy them, so be it. They can have it, wholly and outright. Since I am an electronic music producer, well, there's plenty more where that came from.
Why would you do that? Isn't that selling out? For publicity. And statistics have shown that people will not pay $1 per song anymore. I think that they will pay, but a great deal less than that. Thats another topic though.
What do you mean? Look, the music industry is broken and I'm happy about it frankly. It broke because it refused to adapt and change with the times. Songs--- or 'lets call them records'-- are the same price they have been for 50 years, despite the fact that delivery of those songs has gone down to nearly nothing. I'm fucking serious. Why are you laughing?
Wow. You are bent out of shape about this. Yes. Yes, I am. And shouldn't I be?
What's your favorite song on the album? Next question.
Ok, what's your least favorite? I hate all of them with equal passion. They all started as annoyances in my head, and once I got them out of there, how do you think I feel about hearing them countless times?
Well then what's your objective? To win. Are you a hipster?
Cute. I saw that movie too. The sound of these songs is very synthetic. Are you a child of the 80's or 90's? All of those really. Look, I grew up on music that came from synthesizers, not guitars. Guitars aren't bad, they are just misunderstood. Guitarists use effects just like synthesizers do. Imagine if they didn't? If you took a "rock" band and they never changed their sound from track to track, you critics would dismiss them with words like 'not very imaginative' and 'mono-tone'... so I change it up every song. Lots of people use samples; I tend not to typically.
Do you use analog synthesizers? Why? Because you read somewhere that they are cool to use?
No, because they are supposed to have a better sound to them than digital. I've been collecting and using synthesizers since you were shitting in your diaper; well over 20 years now. The reason I use them is the immediacy of them. They were purpose built with a design that encourages the user to use them. I work fast and furiously.
Your music sounds like it should be in a movie. Have you ever thought of doing sound design or soundtracks? People tell me that all the time, and I don't know. I'm no Daft Punk or Trent Reznor, but I think my sounds and songs might detract from the movie, unless I dumbed them way down. .
Boy, you really are in love with yourself. You have to be.
What are you listening to right now? The sound of your voice asking me mundane questions that you have written down.
Wow this is fun. I listen to a lot of things. Classical during the day, dance music at night where it belongs, and electronic rock songs during the day in my car. How would you describe what you listen to?
Ok, I'll play along: I listen to rock, alt-country, and some hiphop or whatever it is these days. Do you like Kanye?
Well.... (trails off) ...I mean do you like his music?
Yes, some of it is ok. Right, about a third of it for me.
Ok so we're back on common ground. Good. What do you think about Lady Gaga?
I think she's fairly disposable.... That's a great example. Her songs, which she writes and then has a producer 'produce' should be stripped more bare. They shouldn't sound like some smashed up electro thing that's current. It should be her. Just raw and unedited. Like her Thanksgiving special.
Interesting. You're jealous. ...and you're correct. I'm jealous of anyone who gets to do what they love and make money at it. Simon Cowell said the other day that if she'd auditioned for American Idol a few years ago-- don't get me started on that--- that they would have probably laughed her off.
Yeah, that's probably true. They don't like weird. They like middle of the road. Yup. No one likes weird. Statistics show that more "middle" music is sold than anything.
Oh good. Here comes the "...art for arts sake" sob story Well someone has to do it, I always just do what I'm told anyways.
So can people buy your songs somehow? Well, not really through typical means. They certainly can buy them at the unreasonable prices posted at the home site. But they can also download them freely from each songs webpage.
As well as remixes? Sure. There are a few remixes at the site. I am currently having remixes done by other people as well. I think that's interesting.
Why not associate a face--- or even a name-- with manmademadman? I'm not interested in that at this time, frankly. I just don't care. I think I've put together some great songs to satisfy people. So lets see where that leads for now.
ok ok?
